About NSA Rules

  • NSA Canada prides itself in having the only Rule Book that includes rules for 7&3 6&4 5&5, men's, women's,
    and sno-pitch.
  • Each sanctioned team will receive an Official NSA Canada Rule Book as part of the sanction BENEFITS.
  • NSA Canada realizes that each individual league & tournament has their own special rules, so we do not require them
to play by our exact rules.
  • Please remember in umpired leagues, the individual umpires are trained by our rule book, so the closer the league follows the rulebook, the less chance of the umpire not knowing the correct rule.

Purchase of Additional Rule Books

Teams, leagues or individuals may purchase extra rule books from your area director at a cost of $7 per book.

Rule Interpretations

If you have any concerns about the rules, please email [email protected] All concerns will be considered and help to contribute to any updates/ammendments or future publications of the rule book. Your comments or suggestions are welcomed.

Umpire Rule Books

All sanctioned umpires will receive an Official NSA Canada Rule Book as part of the sanction benefits.

NSA Tie-Breaking Formula

Two-way ties:

1. Points - win/loss record
2. Head-to-head (if applicable)
3. TRUE plus/minus (NSA does not use a "cap" of any sort)
4. Best defense
5. Best offense
6. Coin Toss (best out of seven)

Three-way ties:

1. Points - win loss record
2. Head to head (if applicable)
3. TRUE plus/minus (NSA does not use a "cap" of any sort)
4. Best defense
5. Best offense
6. Coin Toss (best out of seven)

Once the three way tie is broken, you re-apply the ENTIRE tie-breaking formula to the remaining teams.
If head-to-head applies, THEN IT WILL BE THE DECIDING FACTOR before +/-.

Four-way (and more) ties:

Use the same format as the three-way tie breaker.
After each team is removed from the tie, the ENTIRE tie-breaking
formula is reapplied to see if head-to-head is applicable.

This tie-breaking formula is the CORRECT way to break a tie.
If a situation is decided on the field, we want to use that as a deciding factor rather than a technicality.

Forfeits are 7-0. Teams MAY be awarded wins for the forfeiting of games and/or may be pushed into a HIGHER playoff position. This is solely at the discretion of the event committee. Teams that show up and get a win by forfeit MAY be offered the opportunity to receive a lower playoff position. This is also solely at the discretion of the event committee.

NSA reserves the right to make decisions in the best interest of the event.
